Demographics:

Our readers are 40% male and 60% female. Most (85%) are upper middle class ($60,000+ annual income) college graduates who visit alternative healers (93%), use vitamins and supplements (98.5%), prefer environmentally friendly products (100%), buy organic food (86%), and travel extensively to attend workshops and seminars (89%). All of them purchase DVDs, books, CDs, as well as a wide variety of tools and products to assist with their personal growth. They are people of integrity who meditate, practice yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong and other forms of spiritual body movement. Our readers are focused on self improvement, inner peace and spiritual development and, by extension, on improving our culture.

Readers seek us out for information with such enthusiasm that distributors frequently find themselves asking for more copies. Advertisers outside the local area find our readers very receptive to quality products and services of interest to them. National advertisers are delighted with responses to their ads.

People are getting results from our publication!
Here are some unsolicited comments
we have received from advertisers:

"Boy you do get around. I've had calls from Sedona and San Diego off that one ad." - Gaias' Own Flower Essences

"We received tremendous response from the information in your magazine." - Tachyon Products Inc.

"I was so amazed, thought you would like to know, I got a call from New Zealand about my class advertised in Mount Shasta Magazine" - Joseph 7 Crows Kinney

"People must hold on to your magazine forever. I still get calls from ads I placed with you in 1994!" - Joanna Cherry, AMI Sacred Images

"My philosophy is that when I advertise that ad says to the world that I am open and ready to serve and receive. It's an energetic thing. I have had an ongoing ad in Mt. Shasta Magazine for 3 years and get calls from people who say they saw my ad and like how it felt. The work I do is very personal and that comes across t o those who see it. That is another thing, I've gotten calls from areas I know the magazine is not yet distributed. How does that happen? I think people like it so much they take the magazine home with them where friends and family are attracted to the energy of the publication. However it happens, the thing is I know it works." - E. Kelly, Hypnotherapist and Healer

Helpful Hints

Here are some general tips courtesy of Conscious Choice Magazine:

Your ad's job is to pique the reader's interest enough to take an action — make a telephone call, request a flyer, attend a free introductory event, visit a Web site — and learn more. In general, the less said the better. A common mistake is to create an ad with the intention that it will "close the sale," cramming so much information into it that many readers won't be willing to plow through it. Remember: the ad's job is merely to call the reader to action; it's your job to close the sale.

It's important that you distinguish your product or service from what others in the field are offering. This can be as simple as saying "downtown Everett" or mentioning that you integrate Reiki and sound healing with your bodywork practice.

Whenever possible, include the word "free." Many people respond very well to the idea of getting something free, so if you want to entice potential clients to attend an intro evening, call for your brochure, or make an appointment for a mini-consultation, use the word "free" prominently. If you don't want to give something away free, consider offering a discount on something.

Most new advertisers, in bringing their ideas into form, do so on a sheet of paper containing nothing other than their ad layout. Realistically, of course, your ad will sit on a page with lots of other things. You may want to cut out your ad and lay it on a copy of Conscious Choice (or whatever publication you're advertising in) to see how effectively it draws attention.

Grabber headlines, eye-catching graphics, and white space draw attention. If you are in one of the helping professions, consider using your photo. Readers often get an intuitive "hit" on whether the person they see in the ad is someone they'd feel safe with. It's not about how attractive you are; it's about the energy the picture carries. Having a current photo that projects your intent honestly is most important.

Advertising is an investment in your business's future. As with any investment, it's important to know what you want to invest and what you expect in return. Keep in mind that until she or he gets to know you, your advertisement is the only impression a potential client has about you.

Ad Requirements and Mechanical Specifications

TRIM SIZE: 8.5" by 11"

BLEED: 8.75" by 11.25" (4 color cover ads only)

We prefer to receive your ad electronically. Ads submitted electronically must be TIF or PDF files. PDFs must be created with Acrobat Distiller using the press-ready settings. PDFs made using the PDF Writer are not acceptable. You must embed or outline all fonts. We do not accept font files. Mail or fax us a comparison copy to ensure that our output matches your layout. We accept ads by e-mail or CD. Layout and production are done 100% electronically, so all ads not submitted in the above forms are scanned and converted to electronic files. This will dramatically reduce the quality of your ad.

Email ads to us at msmag@bestweb.net.

For color advertising, use electronic formats above. Colors must be edited to a CMYK format.

Photos submitted electronically, must be .TIF files scanned at 300 dpi, and as close in size as to what they will be used. 72 dpi JPEG are not acceptable.

Ads submitted electronically may incur a 15% surcharge if additional work is required to insure files output correctly.

Any materials that you need returned should be sent with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to ensure their return. This includes artwork, photos, and electronic storage media (CDs.)
